toffeenut syrup
Sugar: You will need 1 cup of granulated white sugar for sweetness in the toffee nut syrup.
Water: 1 cup water is the base for this syrup recipe.
Hazelnuts: You will need ½ cup of chopped hazelnuts for the nutty flavor in the toffee nut syrup.
Toffee: 1 ½ cups toffee gives the syrup its toffee flavor. You can use any toffee but I suggest the Heath English toffee bits, because these ones are intended for baking and easily melt down.

Espresso: A double shot of espresso is the base of this coffee drink. You can also use a single shot of espresso if trying to consume less caffeine. Check out my post on how much espresso in a latte to decide how much espresso you want to use.
You can make your own espresso machine or stovetop coffee maker. My favorite espresso machine for high quality espresso is the Breville espresso machine. It is perfect for coffee lovers that want the best espresso drinks.
Milk: You will need 8 ounces of milk for the latte. You can use any milk you choose. A traditional latte uses whole milk but any dairy free milk is also a great option. My favorite milk to use for lattes is oat milk.
Toffee nut syrup: 1-2 tablespoons of toffee nut syrup is added to this flavored latte. If storing in a dispenser, it should be 1-2 pumps of syrup.

variations & substitutions 📖
Use whatever milk in your latte that is your favorite. Lattes can be made with any milk, both dairy milk like whole milk or a plant-based alternative. Some popular non-dairy options are almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, or even coconut milk.
Experiment with the coffee beans you use for the espresso. Since the two main components of a latte are the espresso and milk, it is important you use a good quality coffee bean like arabica beans. Try different roasts of coffee beans like blonde roast, dark roast, or medium roast. For best results, use freshly ground coffee rather than a bag of pre-ground coffee beans. You can read all about how to make your espresso taste better in my post what does espresso taste like.
tips & tricks 👩🏻🍳
Let the hazelnuts steep in the syrup for at least 30 minutes. The longer that the hazelnuts steep in the toffee syrup the more nutty flavors the latte will have.
Froth your milk before adding it to the espresso. What makes a latte is the creamy milk and soft layer of foam on top. Frothing your milk makes it that velvety smooth texture and oh so creamy! I like to froth my milk using the Nespresso aeroccino milk frother but you can always use the steam wand attached to the espresso machine or a hand frother.
step by step instructions 🔪
Step #1 - Roast hazelnuts. The first thing to do is heat up the hazelnuts and therefore releasing their aroma and flavor. In a large saucepan, over medium heat add the chopped hazelnuts. Cook for 2-3 minutes until they are a little darker in color and have an intense nutty aroma.
Step #2 - Add sugar and water. Next add the white sugar and water. Increase heat to medium-high heat.
Step #3 - Add toffee and simmer. Once the mixture is rumbling or intensely bubbling, add the toffee into the pan. Let simmer for one minutes until all of the ingredients are melted and incorporated.
Step #4 - Remove from heat and steep. Remove the pan from the heat and let the hazelnuts steep in the syrup for 10-30 minutes. This step really infuses the nutty hazelnut flavor into the syrup and intensifies the taste.
Step #5 - Strain the syrup. Strain the syrup into a glass jar or container.
Step #6 - Make the toffee nut latte. In a mug, add 1 tablespoon of the toffee nut syrup and a double shot of freshly brewed espresso. Then pour in the frothed milk. Serve warm or over ice.
serving suggestions 🍽️
Serve the toffee nut latte warm or over ice. Top with whipped cream and toffee nut sprinkles.
Serve this toffee nut latte alongside brown butter chocolate chip banana bread, brioche mascarpone french toast, or cheesecake banana bread.
storage & reheating 🫙
Store the homemade toffee nut syrup in the fridge for up to 2 weeks in a jar or airtight container.
faqs❓
Toffee nut tastes similar to chestnut. Toffee nut is a bit sweeter from the caramelized sugar in the toffee but it has similar nutty notes.
For the creamiest latte, froth your milk! The steam wand on an espresso machine makes the perfect steamed milk, but you can also use a machine frother or hand frother.
Add the flavored syrup after the coffee or espresso but before the milk. This allows the syrup to meld into the espresso.
