If you're a honey lover like me, you know just how delicious specialty honeys are! Every time I go to the farmers market I keep my eye out for new amazing honeys. Well this vanilla bean whipped honey may just be the best honey you have ever had and it can be made from the ordinary jar of honey you have at home!
Whipped honey or creamed honey is essentially just that. It is honey that gets aerated from whipping making it a light, voluminous texture. You can use it the same as you would traditional honey... drizzled on top of your morning yogurt, added to your warm cup of tea, or even spread across bread in a sandwich or toast. It is a great way to elevate any dish!
ingredients 🧾

Honey: Just 1 ½ cup of honey is needed, or a full size - 12oz bottle. It is important to know the different types of honey and choose which is best for this whipped honey recipe. The first type of honey is raw honey or unfiltered honey, which is honey that has not been filtered and therefore most full of pollen. It is my favorite honey because it is the most flavorful, most nutritious, and the closest honey you will get to straight out of the hive. Pure honey or natural honey is honey that is 100% honey with no additives like corn syrup. Regular honey like the one you find at the grocery store in the bear shaped jar has additives likes syrups and sweeteners and therefore unfortunately will not work for this recipe.
Also, you can use fresh honey or honey that has begun to crystalize. If using crystallized honey, the larger crystals will be broken into small crystals during the whipping process.
Vanilla bean: You will need 3 vanilla bean pods. If you don't have or are unable to find vanilla bean pods, you can also use 1 teaspoon of vanilla bean paste.

variations & substitutions 📖
Add flavors to your honey. You can easily swap the vanilla flavor for another flavor. Try real cinnamon for a festive take or true lavender for a floral delicate flavor. If using a flavor that can not just be blended in, before whipping it, simply heat the honey to low heat and steep the honey with the ingredient for at least 10 minutes. Have fun experimenting with flavors in your next batch of whipped honey!
Turn the whipped honey into honey butter. Make your own honey butter by simply folding the whipped honey into softened butter and refrigerate. It will be a creamy consistency similar to mousse. Perfect to add on top of bread or dinner rolls.

tips & tricks 👩🏻🍳
Use a stand mixer or hand mixer. Although whipping honey can technically be done by hand using a whisk, you get the best smooth texture when using a stand mixer or hand mixer. Not to mention, it takes so much less time.
If possible, get your honey from local markets or local beekeepers. Local honey is the most amazing stuff! It comes from the plants in your area that are freshly pollinated. Not only does it give the honey a unique flavor but the local pollen collected can help combat allergies. Also, local honeys are typically darker honeys since they have more minerals and antioxidants from the environment.

storage 🫙
Whipped honey can be stored in a mason jar or airtight container on the counter or in the pantry at room temperature. You can also store in the fridge if you prefer a honey spread. Cooling it will make it become more of a spreadable consistency rather than liquid honey.

faq's ❓
All honey naturally crystallizes over time, including whipped honey. You can easily fix hardened whipped honey by setting it by a warm window to melt the sugar crystals or placing the jar in a bowl of warm water. If the honey becomes too liquidy, simply rewhip for a few minutes to get back the creamy consistency.
No, whipped honey keeps its mousse like texture forever. Once it is whipped it won't ever become flat or deflate unless exposed to too much heat. Keep the whipped honey in the fridge of at room temperature.
You can enjoy whipped honey all the same ways you use traditional honey! It is delicious drizzled on top of desserts or ice cream. You can add to a charcuterie board to pair with meats, cheeses, and crackers. It is amazing spread on a variety of breakfast items like pancakes, waffles, or scones. You can add it to you latte or tea in the morning. There are so many new ways to use honey and the options are truly endless!
Whipped honey, spun honey, and creamed honey are different names for the same thing. No additives like milk or cream are in any of them, they simply are whipped or aerated to become a light fluffy texture that is the perfect honey spread.
